Through a variety of non-invasive imaging procedures, our team of Edmonton imaging technicians is able to create visualizations of various body parts, organs, and tissues. Early diagnosis generally provides more treatment options and additional flexibility in deciding if medical intervention is right for you.
An ultrasound is a non-invasive procedure that uses sound waves to view body parts that you can’t see. An ultrasounds transducer is placed on the skin (after being covered with a gel). The signal from the transducer is sent to a computer that projects an image on the screen, allowing our radiologist to see a detailed view and provide additional information and insight to our patients. For your ultrasounds needs in Edmonton, contact the experts at Medicine Place!
X-rays use radiation to map the skeletal system. Because bone has a different density than muscle or fat, an x-ray can be very helpful in diagnosing breaks, sprains, or fractures. For convenient x-rays and knowledgeable technicians, visit your x-ray professionals in Edmonton at Medicine Place.
Bone Mineral Density
Bone mineral density (also called a bone mineral density scan) is very useful in measuring bone loss. As a provider of bone mineral density scans in Edmonton, the team at Medicine Place can help you determine and measure the onset of osteoporosis as well as the risk of bone fractures and breaks. Osteoporosis is a disease that causes the ongoing loss of bone density which can increase the risk of injury. Our technicians will notify you of any changes to your bone density and prescribe treatments to reduce your risk.
Total Body Composition Scan (DEXA)
A body composition scan is a simple, yet comprehensive analysis of your total body composition. These results give you a total body fat percentage, as well as a complete visualization and analysis of your lean tissue and bone density. Often, you will measure your body composition at the start of a weight-loss or fitness program and then check it periodically to measure your progress. A body composition scan is another great tool for measuring your bone mineral density.
A mammogram is an x-ray image that is used to diagnose breast cancer. A mammogram is very helpful for identifying lumps or tumors in the breast as well as other abnormalities. Our Edmonton-based imaging professionals will analyze the images for signs of breast cancer and other abnormalities.
An echocardiogram uses sound waves to create images of your heart. This allows our imaging team to see your heart moving and pumping blood which is a very effective way to diagnose heart disease, problems with heart valves, heart defects, and more. For all of your echocardiogram needs in Edmonton, talk to the experts and Medicine Place.
Prior to your procedure, you will be asked about your level of pain scoring from 1 to 10. Similar to an X-Ray examination, this procedure involves fluoroscopy. The patient will be lying on a table and the area to be examined will be prepared for a steroid injection under aseptic conditions. A delicate needle is directed into the symptomatic site. This procedure only takes a few minutes. After the procedure, you will be asked about your level of pain scoring from 1 to 10. You will usually be allowed to continue usual activities after the procedure. You will be asked to consult with your physician a few days later to determine if this procedure is effective for your condition.
